AMD Athlon XP unlock Guide

The good Old Athlon-Thunderbird CPU was easylie to be unlocked with a pencil. Thats not so easy with the new Athlon-XP CPU its a lot of more work to do it. All what we need for it is an liquid second-glue , Glue-band like Tesa (Tesa Strips), dis-lacquer or Nitro , and Silver-conductive-lacquer. Helpfully is an magnifiying Glass cause the bridges are very very small. The TB and XP CPU are constructed like the same , the bridges are all at the same place . so i painted the changes only on the picters below. The difference between the TB and XP CPU is that there are some little wholes into the bridges wich was made with an laser. That is it why we cant unlock it only with an pencil like at the old TB CPU. We must close this little wholes with our liquid glue. There are some Manuals wich say that you can put the Silver-conductive-lacquer around this little whole. Thats totally correct but if you do so , tread carefully cause if comes a little bit of the lacquer into an whole you have an major problem for sure. Interesting for the moment are the L1 Bridges ( they are enaugh for the most motherboards).

Attention!!

We can´t Hit by the law if you try to unlock the CPU and destroy it! Remember that well before you do it.

Here we see an Old Athlon CPU , the new Xp is working in another computer . Mostly it is ok to close the L1 Bridges , cause we can correct the Multiplicator from the most Boards.

Here we see the little wholes wich i painted on the picture. Now we must fill the up with the glue. Remember that it is important to keep them free from the lacque! Otherwise the unlock-fun ended here. Down at the L3 Bridges we see how easily the Bridges was cut off at the Athlon/Duron.

At the first step we put some glue-band on the bridges that only the little wholes are free. Pay attention that no liquid glue hits the bridges.

Please make sure that the liquid glue drys 20 Minutes bevore you take away the glue band. It has to look that way, if anything is well. You can only fill up the wholes or all the room between the bridges like here at the picture , when u fill all the room you must polish it away with the nail-dis-lacquer or Nitro. At the end only the glue into the wholes will be there , so we can put on the silver - lacquer.

Now we can begin to put the lacque on it. Dont do it with a brush , perfect it is with an Needle. Best with the top of the Neddle drop by drop. Pay attention that you NOT connect the bridges with the silver lacquer this will destroy the CPU! If it happens correct it with the dis-lacquer or Nitro. We needed 5 trys to have it perfect.

Now we can install the CPU into the computer. Now we can correct the settings at the Multiplicator if the Motherboard works with L1 bridges. If it works not we must give the CPU an fixed Multiplicator , for this we need the L3 and L4 Bridges too. To cut off these Bridges we need an Paper-knife or carpent-knife.

It must look like this if you cant correct the Multiplicator at the Bios.
The Bridges must be connect or disconnect like you see here.

Multiplicator

L3

L4

10 O X X O X X O O
10,5 X X O O X X O O
11 O O X X O O X X
11,5 X O O X O O X X
12 O X X O O O X X
12,5/13 X X O O O O X X

O = closed X = disconnected

With the overcloack / unlcock from the Xp you can work with an 1800 XP like an 2000 XP. But u need an good Air / Water - cooler. If you dont know wich coller u need take a look at our Cooling.- system Tests at our page. We had tested an XP 1900 ( 1600 MHZ ) with 1680 MHZ ( 12,5 x 135 FSB ) that is an XP 2035. With an ABIT KT7A-Raid board you can only set an Multiplicator at 12,5 , but for sure it will be work with 13 or higher too.
